Update! I’ve spent the last couple months deep in Liberty, wrapping up manuscripts for the next three Byways Books. Time to launching into editing mode! Meanwhile, the illustrations are coming along beautifully. This trio is momentous because with books #11, #12, and #13, we’ve now covered the thirteen original colonies! (And hey, did you notice that there’s a circle of 13 stars on the cover? Rangers also wear cloak pins with thirteen stars.) Look forward to Byways #11, Beneath the Torch: A Ewan Johns Adventure (NY), which is our first brother crossover, Byways #12, In the Middle: A Zane Johns Adventure (NC), and Byways #13, Among the Tents: A Ganix Johns Adventure (RI). They’ll be releasing this summer!

Hurlock’s long legs had no problem keeping up with the donkey cart, but Ganix had to jog. Before long, he was out of breath, so he Changed into a raccoon. Scampering up the man’s leg, he climbed onto Hurlock’s shoulder.

“I hope that’s you, Ganix.”

The young coon chirred happily and made himself comfy. Having teammates was the best!

Jovan studied the blue line that zigzagged west. “I wonder if Grandfather had you in mind when he sketched this route across the map.”

At the heart of Liberty, towns were few and far between. Wide green land, low rolling hills, and a maze of hidden valleys—they marked the eastern boundary of a place where strange things had a way of happening. Magic thrived. Mythical beasts roamed free. No one had ever dared to map all of its mysteries. Not even the rangers who kept peace throughout the land.

“Uncle Vanek knows what I like,” said Zane, who was a great-nephew of Jovan’s grandfather. “He lived out there, didn’t he? During his ranger days.”

“Yes, but that’s a long way from here. In the deepest part of the Wilds.”

A raffle with wonderful books as prizes. Booths for creating poetry, flash fiction, and comics. And of course, local authors like me, who were ready to answer questions about being writers. I was so happy to have print editions of the Byways books ready in time!
