Highways & Byways

Coastal Highway. I’m recently returned from a road trip, which was nostalgic in a lot of ways. The last time I was on the Pacific Coast Highway, I dreamed up the Byways Books. I’m getting ready to relaunch the series, so it was a thrill to see actual elk (and elk crossing signs) on the roads throughout Oregon.

More news about Byways will be coming soon. And consider joining my patreon if you’re interested in seeing more pictures from my day-to-day life & travels. ~CJ

Camp NaNoWriMo – WIN!

Camp-2018-Winner-Twitter-Header

My writing group is tackling a short story project this year, and I used #CampNaNoWriMo to get my thoughts down. Naturally, my story concept took on a life of its own and got entirely out of hand. Now, it’s been structured as a 6-book mystery series in a historical setting. I’ll need to do a bit more research before I go any further with my notes, but I’m cautiously pleased. Maybe sometime down the line, I’ll be announcing its debut!

Summer Reading Challenge

BINGO boards have been making the rounds via social media, with everyone searching for common ground and (figuratively) covering those squares. Elza and I both filled them out. She posted ours side-by-side on this post, which gives you the chance to see which of us you’re most like.

Even more exciting, we’re doing a Summer Reading Challenge over the summer, with a new BINGO board every month. Play along by picking up your June board >>

BYWAYS: Trendy Cover

Caught a blog post this morning over on The Booklist Reader about a trend in kids’ book covers—Ride a Golden Beast. Gathering up these titles would make for a fun library or bookshop display. And Zane’s on trend with the cover for Byways #12, In the Middle: A Zane Johns Adventure.

In the seventh book of the Byways series, Ganix lands in a mess of trouble when he decides an enslaved magician needs a friend. Across the Line introduces readers to Hurlock, who’s featured in the cover illustration. Continue reading BYWAYS: Behind the Header

BYWAYS: Behind the Header

Byways, for the website

We’re taking a look behind the header on Byways cover illustrations. The series title often hides pretty scenes or special secrets. This week, it’s Zane’s turn. On Book #6, we get a dramatic first look at one of the many creatures who call the Wilds their home. Since Zane’s half-wild himself, he gets along well with everything from firebirds to fairy kestrels. Continue reading BYWAYS: Behind the Header
